A year of change and focus
The year brought both growth and difficult decisions. We realigned our strategic focus on our Pulse Catering and Canteens 4 Kids businesses, where the greatest impact and potential for growth exist.
We closed down our café operations in Whitlam and Symonston, along with smaller cleaning and gardening services that were no longer viable. While these closures were difficult, they allowed resources to be directed into building sustainable enterprises with more training, employment, and community impact.
Pulse Catering
Pulse Catering provides high-quality, chef-designed catering services across Canberra and the surrounding region. The former Heartbeat Café site was transformed into a dedicated catering hub, now supplying commercial catering to the public and nutritious meals for more than four local community groups.
By repurposing existing underutilised facilities, Pulse Catering turned challenges into long-term community benefits and created a sustainable income stream.
Canteens 4 Kids
In partnership with the ACT Education Directorate, Canteens 4 Kids operates 26 school canteens across Canberra, with more schools joining each year. The canteens offer daily access to healthy, affordable meals while creating valuable employment opportunities.
Expertise from Pulse Catering guarantees a consistent supply of nutritious food across school communities. All meals adhere to the ACT Government’s traffic light system, based on the National Healthy School Canteens guidelines. By providing students with nutritious meals, the program helps improve their focus, wellbeing, and learning outcomes.
